"Smashing-it" in the Lakes!

Writer: Ian BrothertonIan Brotherton

In late May, working as part of the fabulous Lakeland Mountain Guides, I supported a group of 35 who came together to walk the Fairfield Horseshoe, and to raise funds in memory of friend and colleague Marty Stephens. "Marty's Smash-It challenge" was aptly named in memory of Marty's love of life and can-do attitude.

This event was a follow-up to last year's highly successful Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge completed by the group.

As you can see there were some pretty challenging conditions with very little visibility above 400m, and driving rain at times... But the group had huge amounts of camaraderie and a real can-do attitude and despite the weather (or maybe because of?!), laughed and smiled round their big day out in the Lakes!

Some great memories made both on the hill and in the Wateredge Inn afterwards, plus a phenomenal £10k raised by the group for a charity close to Marty's heart.
